COPS SEIZE 4 COUN­TRY-MADE GUNS, ONE AR­RESTED

CBD BELAPUR: The Navi Mum­bai Crime branch unit II has seized four coun­try-made re­volvers and three live car­tridges from a his­tory sheeter.

Se­nior police in­spec­tor of crime branch unit II Ad­hikrao Pol had re­ceived a tip-off that a man would be com­ing to sell coun­try-made re­volvers near Taloja rail­way sta­tion along Mum­bra-Pan­vel road on March 27.

Ac­cord­ing to police com­mis­sioner Prab­hat Ran­jan, “A trap was laid by as­sis­tant police in­spec­tors Subhash Pu­jari and Ba­ban Jag­tap along with their team. Soon, the police team saw a man com­ing with a sack on his shoul­der.”

He added, “The in­former pointed him out as the sus­pect. Re­al­is­ing that a trap had been laid, he tried to es­cape but he was caught.”

The man was iden­ti­fied as Mangeshku­mar Ph­ag­u­lal Ya­dav, 35, a res­i­dent of Mankhurd in Mum­bai, orig­i­nally hail­ing from Al­la­habad in Ut­tar Pradesh.

The team found four coun­try-made re­volvers and three live car­tridges with him worth Rs41,600.

A case has been reg­is­tered against Ya­dav at Taloja police sta­tion. Ran­jan added, “We learnt that the ac­cused is a his­tory sheeter. He has a case reg­is­tered against him at CBD Belapur police sta­tion un­der the arms act last year. He was out on bail.”

“We are in­ves­ti­gat­ing where the ac­cused had pro­cured the weapons from and for whom it was meant,” added Ran­jan.
