COPS SEIZE 4 COUNTRY-MADE GUNS, ONE ARRESTED
CBD BELAPUR: The Navi Mumbai Crime branch unit II has seized four country-made revolvers and three live cartridges from a history sheeter.
Senior police inspector of crime branch unit II Adhikrao Pol had received a tip-off that a man would be coming to sell country-made revolvers near Taloja railway station along Mumbra-Panvel road on March 27.
According to police commissioner Prabhat Ranjan, “A trap was laid by assistant police inspectors Subhash Pujari and Baban Jagtap along with their team. Soon, the police team saw a man coming with a sack on his shoulder.”
He added, “The informer pointed him out as the suspect. Realising that a trap had been laid, he tried to escape but he was caught.”
The man was identified as Mangeshkumar Phagulal Yadav, 35, a resident of Mankhurd in Mumbai, originally hailing from Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh.
The team found four country-made revolvers and three live cartridges with him worth Rs41,600.
A case has been registered against Yadav at Taloja police station. Ranjan added, “We learnt that the accused is a history sheeter. He has a case registered against him at CBD Belapur police station under the arms act last year. He was out on bail.”
“We are investigating where the accused had procured the weapons from and for whom it was meant,” added Ranjan.
