Cleaner dies in accident, two truck drivers held
NAVI MUMBAI: Two two truck drivers were arrested after a cleaner of one of the trucks died because of their alleged negligence on Thursday.
According to the police, the first truck which came from Uttar Pradesh to APMC market developed some technical glitches near the truck terminal. The driver Premchand Thakur, 43, called another truck to tow his vehicle from the terminal to some other place.
“After the other truck reached the spot, the cleaner of the first truck Harisingh Mehta, 26, went to adjust something between the trucks. All of a sudden, the trucks started moving and Mehta was crushed by them. He suffered severe injuries in the accident and died on the spot,” said a police officer from APMC police station.
Doctors at NMMC hospital in Vashi later confirmed his death. The post-mortem report is yet to come.
The police arrested Thakur and the driver of the second truck Chandsingh Mohad, 52, for negligence. “They have been booked under sections 304a, 279 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Our investigations are still on,” another police officer said.
