Cleaner dies in ac­ci­dent, two truck driv­ers held

NAVI MUM­BAI: Two two truck driv­ers were ar­rested af­ter a cleaner of one of the trucks died be­cause of their al­leged neg­li­gence on Thurs­day.

Ac­cord­ing to the police, the first truck which came from Ut­tar Pradesh to APMC mar­ket de­vel­oped some tech­ni­cal glitches near the truck ter­mi­nal. The driver Prem­c­hand Thakur, 43, called an­other truck to tow his ve­hi­cle from the ter­mi­nal to some other place.

“Af­ter the other truck reached the spot, the cleaner of the first truck Haris­ingh Me­hta, 26, went to ad­just some­thing be­tween the trucks. All of a sud­den, the trucks started mov­ing and Me­hta was crushed by them. He suf­fered se­vere in­juries in the ac­ci­dent and died on the spot,” said a police of­fi­cer from APMC police sta­tion.

Doc­tors at NMMC hospital in Vashi later con­firmed his death. The post-mortem re­port is yet to come.

The police ar­rested Thakur and the driver of the sec­ond truck Chands­ingh Mo­had, 52, for neg­li­gence. “They have been booked un­der sec­tions 304a, 279 and 34 of the In­dian Pe­nal Code (IPC). Our in­ves­ti­ga­tions are still on,” an­other police of­fi­cer said.
