Teen takes woman to Gujarat, held for rape
An 18-year-old boy was arrested for allegedly taking a 22-year-old woman to Gujarat where she was raped.
The man who raped her is yet to be arrested. Jigar Waghela is a hawker in Thane market and the woman too has a shop at the market.
On March 19, the woman asked Waghela for money. He gave her Rs1,000. After a couple of days, she again asked for Rs1,000.
“This time, the boy asked her to come to Gujarat with him. He said that he would give her the money and then she could return to Mumbai. The next day they left for Gujarat. The woman is married. Her family members registered a missing compliant with the Bhandup police station,” said Shradda Waydande, police officer from Thanenagar police station.
The woman’s relatives who live in Gujarat were informed and they started looking for her.
They found her after a fortnight on the highway. She was brought back to Thane.
“She was so scared that she did not tell her family about the incident initially. Later, she told them about it and a police complaint was lodged. Waghela said he did not know the name of the accused and that he returned to Thane after dropping her,” added Waydande.
Waydande said, “Waghela, a resident of Thane, has been arrested. We have sent the woman for a medical test.
The boy has been booked under section 363 (punishment for kidnapping), 376 (punishment for rape) and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.”
