JEW­ELLERY WORTH `24 LAKH MISS­ING FROM NERUL FLAT

The po­lice have reg­is­tered a house-break­ing case af­ter gold jew­ellery worth Rs23.8 lakh went miss­ing from a flat in Nerul. Shakhni Shetty, 57, a res­i­dent of Arunudai hous­ing so­ci­ety, went to a nearby tem­ple around 4.30 pm on April 1. Af­ter some­time, her 15-yearold daugh­ter, locked the door and went to meet a friend at Vashi. Shakhni had an ex­tra key with her. When she reached home af­ter two hours, she found there was a dif­fer­ent lock in her door. “A neigh­bour in­formed that her daugh­ter had left the house with­out lock­ing it and so he locked the door. Shakhani’s daugh­ter said she had locked the door be­fore leav­ing the house,” said Vikrant Tharkar, po­lice sub-in­spec­tor. “The next morn­ing, Shakhni dis­cov­ered that gold jew­ellery worth Rs23.8 lakh was miss­ing from the house. We have reg­is­tered a case un­der sec­tions 454, 457 and 380 of the In­dian Pe­nal Code,” he added.
