The pro­posed PMC is

ex­pected to in­clude 66 of the 173 vil­lages in Pan­vel taluka, eight City and In­dus­trial Devel­op­ment Cor­po­ra­tion (CIDCO)de­vel­oped nodes and Pan­vel city

The state gov­ern­ment had formed a study com­mit­tee headed by Konkan divi­sional com­mis­sioner, Tanaji Sa­tre, to pre­pare a plan for the es­tab­lish­ment of the pro­posed cor­po­ra­tion

The com­mit­tee is

study­ing how the cor­po­ra­tion should be, its ge­o­graph­i­cal bound­aries, fi­nan­cial sources and ex­penses on ba­sic ameni­ties and in­fra­struc­ture. It will also take stock of wa­ter sup­ply

The res­i­dents of Pan­vel

city at present pay only prop­erty tax to the mu­nic­i­pal coun­cil. Those in the ru­ral ar­eas pay their house tax. Once the new mu­nic­i­pal cor­po­ra­tion comes into be­ing, res­i­dents of Pan­vel will have to pay var­i­ous taxes. These in­clude, apart from prop­erty tax, lo­cal body tax, stamp duty, pre­mium tax, devel­op­ment tax among oth­ers.
