Pan­vel rivers to be cleaned, beau­tifi ed

PAN­VEL: The rev­enue de­part­ment has taken up the am­bi­tious project of beau­ti­fy­ing and clean­ing rivers in Pan­vel. The project was in­au­gu­rated on Gudi Padwa through a puja on the banks of Gadhi river in Takka.

The riverbeds of Gadhi, Kalundre and Kasadi rivers that pass through Pan­vel have be­come pol­luted. There are also large-scale en­croach­ments along the river.

It was in this con­text that the clean­ing and beau­ti­fi­ca­tion work was de­cided upon.

MLA Prashant Thakur said: “There is a need for all sec­tions of the so­ci­ety to unite in this en­deav­our. So­cial and na­ture lov­ing or­gan­i­sa­tions and NSS stu­dents need to par­tic­i­pate and sup­port the project.”

Tehsil­dar Deepak Akde said, “A meet­ing will be held on April 21, which will be at­tended by of­fi­cials of all de­part­ments. A plan will be charted out at the meet­ing to im­ple­ment the project.”

Akde ren­dered an oath to those present con­vey­ing so­cial mes­sage on wa­ter lit­er­acy.

Akde said, “We have taken up the beau­ti­fi­ca­tion and clean­li­ness pro­gramme of Gadhi river to en­sure that it does not end up like Mum­bai’s Mithi river is in.”

He added, “T he project will prove to be a boon for the res­i­dents of Pan­vel. Wher­ever re­quired strict ac­tion will be taken if there are ob­sta­cles in the project in terms of beau­ti­fi­ca­tion.”

THE RIVERBEDS OF GADHI, KALUNDRE AND KASADI HAVE BE­COME POL­LUTED. THERE ARE ALSO EN­CROACH­MENTS ALONG THE RIVER.
