RESIDENTS USE HELPLINES TO LODGE COMPLAINTS
Almost a week after the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) launched helpline numbers and WhatsApp number for registering water woes, residents have been voicing their complaints.
The toll-free numbers 800222309/ 1800222310 and WhatsApp number 8419900401 was launched by the civic body on April 6.
A total of 20 complaints and 45 suggestions have been registered on WhatsApp.
The toll-free numbers have got 15 complaints.
“Most complaints we got so far are of water wastage, People send us photos and details of the location where water is being wasted. We immediately send our team to check the area and take action. Residents are first warned against wasting water,” said Arvind Shinde, executive engineer, water department of NMMC.
Residents also update officials after the action is taken on the complaints.
Suggestions are pouring in on how water can be conserved, saved and how wastage can be avoided by reusing water for secondary purposes.
“Citizens have understood the gravity of the situation. They themselves are taking initiatives to come up with ways to curtail water use and reuse the available water,” said an official from the water department.
