Man in­jured as drunk con­sta­ble rams car into him

A 45-year-old con­sta­ble from the Ra­bodi po­lice sta­tion was ar­rested for al­leged drink driv­ing af­ter he hit three ve­hi­cles with his car and in­jured a pedes­trian on Tues­day night.

Con­sta­ble Pur­shot­tam At­maram was driv­ing his car in Samta Na­gar area at Var­tak Na­gar around 11.55pm when he rammed into a cou­ple of twowheel­ers, the gate of a build­ing and two other cars.

He then in­jured a pedes­trian, Shailen­dra Jaiswal, 39.

Jaiswal, who runs a be­tel stall, had closed his shop and was head­ing home when he was hit by At­maram’s car.

When At­maram stopped the car, res­i­dents of the area rushed to the spot and found him in an ine­bri­ated con­di­tion.

They alerted the po­lice and At­maram was taken to the po­lice sta­tion.

Jaiswal was sent home af­ter first aid.

An of­fi­cer from Var­tak Na­gar po­lice sta­tion said, “We have reg­is­tered a case un­der Sec­tions 279 (rash driv­ing or rid­ing on a pub­lic way), 337 (caus­ing hurt by act en­dan­ger­ing life or per­sonal safety of oth­ers) of the In­dian Pe­nal Code and Mo­tor Ve­hi­cle Act 184 and 185. In­ves­ti­ga­tion is on.”
