Man injured as drunk constable rams car into him
A 45-year-old constable from the Rabodi police station was arrested for alleged drink driving after he hit three vehicles with his car and injured a pedestrian on Tuesday night.
Constable Purshottam Atmaram was driving his car in Samta Nagar area at Vartak Nagar around 11.55pm when he rammed into a couple of twowheelers, the gate of a building and two other cars.
He then injured a pedestrian, Shailendra Jaiswal, 39.
Jaiswal, who runs a betel stall, had closed his shop and was heading home when he was hit by Atmaram’s car.
When Atmaram stopped the car, residents of the area rushed to the spot and found him in an inebriated condition.
They alerted the police and Atmaram was taken to the police station.
Jaiswal was sent home after first aid.
An officer from Vartak Nagar police station said, “We have registered a case under Sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicle Act 184 and 185. Investigation is on.”
