Teen Hath Naka in Thane to get second flyover

THANE: The Teen Hath Naka junction, one of the busiest in Thane, may soon be decongested.

The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has prepared a feasibility report for a multilevel flyover at Teen Hath Naka junction which will soon be submitted to the union ministry of surface transport.

The project aims at decongesting Teen Hath Naka by distributing the traffic into different levels so that the waiting time at the signals is reduced.

The corporation has planned a second flyover over the existing flyover and an underpass for the pedestrians.

A roundabout and elongated arms on the existing flyover to ease the congestion are also on the cards.

A civic officer requesting anonymity said, “The corporation has proposed to divide the traffic at Teen Hath Naka into three levels — the ground level is for commuters going towards LBS Marg and east and west side of Thane station, the existing flyover is for intra-city traffic and the third, a newly proposed second-level flyover, is for people going or coming from Kalyan or Nashik.”

The new two-way flyover will start from Kopri Bridge and connect to the Cadbury flyover so that people going towards Nashik or Kalyan can have a smoother commute.

Most heavy vehicles can use the flyover.

The existing flyover will also be modified.

An elongated roundabout will be constructed so that vehicles can have arms connecting to LBS Marg, Mulund and Gokhale Road.

Civic commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal said, “We have prepared a feasibility report of this project worth Rs240 crore which will be submitted to the ministry of surface transport. If it is not approved by the ministry, we will take it under the Amrut scheme of the central government and if it is not even approved under Amrut, we will build it with our own funds.”

Jaiswal said the project will cut down travel time of the motorist and de-congest the signal.
