From today, take NMMT bus from Panvel to Karanjade
Fulfilling the demand of Panvel residents, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) has decided to start bus services from Panvel to Karanjade village from Friday.
The 41km distance will be covered in eighteen minutes and the frequency will also be the same — eighteen minutes. The new service will be available from Panvel railway station to the end of Karanjade Gaon, a senior NMMT official said.
The first service from Panvel railway station is at 6.42am while the last service is at 8.40pm. Similarly, from Karanjade, the first service is at 7am and the last service is at 9pm.
The residents of Panvel and the commuter welfare organisation, Citizens Unity Forum (CUF) had been demanding the NMMT officials to provide more buses.
“Taking the inconvenience of the commuters into consideration, we had planned to start the services in December last year. However, it was postponed owing to some management issues. Now, it will be started from Friday,” said one NMMT official.
In November last year, the NMMT started a ring route in Panvel between Panvel station and Sai Nagar, which received a huge response from commuters. This is their second service in Panvel after that.
“The NMMT is willing to start more services in Panvel but a lack of manpower poses a hurdle. However, we are happy that they finally listened to our requests,” said Arun Bhise, senior member, CUF.
Sirish Aradwar, general manager of NMMT, said, “We are now running a total of 360 buses including 70 air-conditioned ones on 48 routes. This number is not sufficient to cover such a huge area. Therefore, we have ordered for 150 new buses including 10 air-conditioned ones and are expecting those within a few months.”
“The new buses we have ordered for will not be used outside Navi Mumbai. We will concentrate mostly on the jurisdiction of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation,” he said.
