The Kol­she­wadi po­lice on Thurs­day booked a 35-yearold man for al­legedly cheat­ing a woman, 41, of Rs10.20 lakh by promis­ing to pro­cure jobs for her chil­dren. The ac­cused, Ma­hesh Mha­tre, is yet to be ar­rested.

Mha­tre works in a co-op­er­a­tive bank at Kalyan. The com­plainant, who knows the ac­cused, had ap­proached him in 2013 for jobs for her chil­dren.

“The ac­cused had as­sured the woman of jobs in a bank at Kalyan for her chil­dren. But told her she would have to de­posit money in his ac­count. Over three years, the woman said she de­posited Rs10.20 lakh,” said an of­fi­cer from Kol­she­wadi po­lice sta­tion.

“He them started giv­ing vague replies. The woman lodged a case af­ter the ac­cused started avoid­ing her calls,” said the of­fi­cer. The po­lice have charged the ac­cused un­der IPC sec­tion 420.
