KOPAR KHAIRANE FIRE STATION TO BE OPERATIONAL BY 2017
NAVI MUMBAI: The fire station at Kopar Khairane being constructed by Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is set to be operational by early next year. The civic body is constructing the station with a budget of Rs 7.25 crore.
Sources from NMMC fire department told HT that the upcoming fire station will cater to 23 sectors in Kopar Khairane, seven sectors in Ghansoli as well as various parts of Mahape, Adavali, Bhutavali, Pawane, Khairane and Bonkhode, which have an overall population of 2 lakh.
The station will have parking space for five fire engines, office room and residential place for the officers along with compound wall.
“Kopar Khairane is one of biggest residential are in our jurisdiction. Several high-rises have also come up there in the past three to four years. Therefore, an independent fire station is the need of hours. The construction was started in the first half of 2015 and it will be ready by this year end. So we can say that it be operational by 2017,” said JN Sinnerkar, deputy municipal commissioner of NMMC.
The areas which come under Kopar Khairane is being covered by Vashi fire brigade.
However, as there are 23 sectors in Kopar Khairane including some gaothan areas with extremely narrow roads, the fire vehicles cannot reach on time when a fire breaks out in the remote areas of the node.
Prabhakar Gade, in-charge of NMMC fire department said, “The construction of the fire station is going on in full swing. Every possible step have been taken to finish the project on time and inaugurate it for the convenience of the residents.”
The construction of the fire station at Kopar Khairane is in progress.
