NAVI MUM­BAI: The fire sta­tion at Kopar Khairane be­ing con­structed by Navi Mum­bai Mu­nic­i­pal Cor­po­ra­tion (NMMC) is set to be op­er­a­tional by early next year. The civic body is con­struct­ing the sta­tion with a bud­get of Rs 7.25 crore.

Sources from NMMC fire de­part­ment told HT that the up­com­ing fire sta­tion will cater to 23 sec­tors in Kopar Khairane, seven sec­tors in Ghan­soli as well as var­i­ous parts of Ma­hape, Adavali, Bhutavali, Pawane, Khairane and Bonkhode, which have an over­all pop­u­la­tion of 2 lakh.

The sta­tion will have park­ing space for five fire en­gines, of­fice room and res­i­den­tial place for the of­fi­cers along with com­pound wall.

“Kopar Khairane is one of big­gest res­i­den­tial are in our ju­ris­dic­tion. Sev­eral high-rises have also come up there in the past three to four years. There­fore, an in­de­pen­dent fire sta­tion is the need of hours. The con­struc­tion was started in the first half of 2015 and it will be ready by this year end. So we can say that it be op­er­a­tional by 2017,” said JN Sin­nerkar, deputy mu­nic­i­pal com­mis­sioner of NMMC.

The ar­eas which come un­der Kopar Khairane is be­ing cov­ered by Vashi fire bri­gade.

How­ever, as there are 23 sec­tors in Kopar Khairane in­clud­ing some gaothan ar­eas with ex­tremely nar­row roads, the fire ve­hi­cles can­not reach on time when a fire breaks out in the re­mote ar­eas of the node.

Prab­hakar Gade, in-charge of NMMC fire de­part­ment said, “The con­struc­tion of the fire sta­tion is go­ing on in full swing. Ev­ery pos­si­ble step have been taken to fin­ish the project on time and in­au­gu­rate it for the con­ve­nience of the res­i­dents.”


The con­struc­tion of the fire sta­tion at Kopar Khairane is in progress.
