The SC upheld on Wednesday the Bombay HC’s order throwing all IPL matches out of drought-hit Maharashtra from April 30. Thirteen matches were moved out after widespread outrage over the wastage of water in maintaining a cricket stadium and pitches at a time when vast swathes of the state were grappling with drought and a scorching heatwave. “We see no merits in the contention raised,” a bench headed by Chief Justice TS Thakur said, dismissing the MCA and Maharashtra Cricket Association’s appeals against the high court order.
