RUNAWAY MINOR GANG- RAPED IN NOIDA, 3 HELD
NOIDA: Three people were arrested on Wednesday for the alleged abduction and gang rape of a runaway girl in a Noida park, officials said. The incident, which put the spotlight back on the safety of women in the National Capital Region, came at a time when Delhi was witnessing protests over the rape and murder of a 29-year-old Dalit law student in a small town near Kerala’s Kochi last week.
The Noida victim, believed to be a minor, told police that she had run away from her house in Shamli in Uttar Pradesh after a quarrel with parents and boarded a bus to Noida.
An auto-rickshaw driver took her to his house on the pretext of giving shelter. He called two of his friends to his house.
As the girl suspected something was wrong and tried to escape, the accused took her to a park in Sector 119 around 2am on Tuesday night and assaulted her.
The girl approached police in the morning, and the accused were arrested. “Azad, Amir and Zahid — all auto drivers, were arrested from their hideouts… They were produced in the court and sent to a 14-day judicial custody,” said Kiran Sivakumar, SSP, Gautam Budh Nagar. >> CONTINUED ON P10
