NAVI MUMBAI: A 25-year-old man from Palghar allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in a building at Kalamboli, where one of his woman friends stays in a rented room. His friend is a constable with Navi Mumbai police headquarters.

According to t he police, Chandrakant Singra, who was preparing for MPSC exams, stayed in a hostel in Panvel. Around 6pm on Wednesday, he went to meet his friend whom he knew since his childhood.

“After sometime, he came out of the room which was on the third floor and hanged himself from a steel pipe of the staircase with a rope. Some other people of the building saw him hanging and they along with the friend took him to a nearby hospital. But he was declared dead by the doctors,” said KR Popere, senior police inspector of Kalamboli police station. The police found a suicide note from his pocket. However, they have not revealed what the deceased had written in it.

“Prima facie, it appears that he was planning to marry the friend. However, he was worried if the friend will give her consent to it as she had got a job in the police and he was still jobless. We are still investigating the case,” Popere said.
