30 pub­lic loos use drink­ing water

There are 30 pub­lic toi­lets in the city that use drink­ing water. Tak­ing up the work of 54 borewells ini­tially, NMMC has plans to sup­ply borewell water to all the pub­lic toi­lets in the city in phases. At present, the NMMC has ini­ti­ated work on 30 borewells in Airoli, Digha, Ra­bale and Ghan­soli to sup­ply water to the slum ar­eas. The civic water depart­ment has said that water has been found at around 100 feet in th­ese ar­eas. The use of borewell water is ex­pected to save at least 5,000 litres a day of drink­ing water in ev­ery pub­lic toi­let.
