DEVELOPER CHEATS HOMEBUYER OF 11 L, BOOKED
NAVI MUMBAI: The Kopar Khairane police have booked a real estate developer after he allegedly cheated a 39-year-old woman from Virar promising a flat in an under construction building.
According to t he police, Nikunja Suman came in touch with the accused in 2011. The accused, who had an office at Sector 7, showed her a flat and asked her to book it if she was interested.
Suman readily accepted the offer and a deal was struck on September 22 that year. From then till July next year, she gave him a total of Rs 11.7 lakh in several installments for the flat.
"However, even after almost five years the accused could not hand over the flat to her,” said Ashok Pawar, police subinspector of Kopar Khairane police station.
When Suman started making calls to ask about the flat, the accused threatened her. He also told her not to call him again.
“Frustrated, she finally came to us and registered an FIR. We have booked the accused under sections 420 (punishment for cheating) and 507 ( criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication) of the Indian Penal Code ( IPC).
The developer shut his office at Kopar Khairane long ago.
"We are looking for him and hope to arrest him soon,” Pawar said.
