3 held for steal­ing cloth con­sign­ment worth R 1.9 crore

CBD BELAPUR: Navi Mum­bai crime branch has ar­rested three peo­ple who had fled af­ter sell­ing a cloth con­sign­ment meant for ex­port.

The po­lice have re­cov­ered around Rs1.70 crore worth of con­sign­ment from them. They are look­ing out for two more ac­cused.

The ar­rested ac­cused are Sub­hash Mangi­lal Jain, 52, Mukesh Sharma, 34, and Ashwin Shivash alias Ajay, 26.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice com­mis­sioner Prab­hat Ran­jan, “Anil Kavad, a trader from Bhi­wandi, had re­ceived an ex­port or­der of 12 t onnes of syn­thetic cloth worth Rs1.96 crore from Nige­ria.”

He added, “The con­sign­ment had been sent to JNPT port for ex­port by him, how­ever it was taken to Delhi where it was sold to an­other trader.”

Ran­jan said three teams of crime branch and Khan­desh­war po­lice sta­tion were formed to in­ves­ti­gate into the mat­ter. “Our in­ves­ti­ga­tions led us to Vapi in Gu­jarat, Delhi and Bhi­wandi. We fi­nally learnt that the ac­cused were in Delhi,” he said.

The t hree ac­cused were ar­rested on April 30 by a po­lice team that went over to Delhi.

Ran­jan said , “Fol­low­ing their in­ter­ro­ga­tion, we man­aged to lo­cate the trader to whom the cloth had been sold and seized the con­sign­ment. We are now look­ing for the two ac­com­plices of the ar­rested ac­cused.”
