Amarjeet Kaur, a 45-year-old a resident of Nerul, received a call from an unknown number on her mobile phone. The caller introduced himself as a bank official where she had an account and then asked for her credit card details. He also said that her card will be blocked if she did not give the details. Kaur shared the details and within minutes she lost Rs15,000 from her account. She then registered an FIR with Nerul police
Vinayak Narayan Munj went to the ATM kiosk around 2.20pm at Nerul and withdrew Rs1,000 using his debit card. He received an alert of this transaction on his mobile phone. However, after a few minutes, he received another alert informing that Rs14,000 had been withdrawn from his account. Confused, he went back to the ATM kiosk to check if someone else withdrew the money after him. However, he did not find anyone there
Ashok Ambale, a retired Army official went to withdraw some money to an ATM kiosk near Kopar Khairane railway station. As he entered the kiosk, an unidentified person came forward to help him. Ambale gave too him his ATM card and PIN to withdraw money. After the transaction the man handed Ambale a card that looked just like his. After Ambale left the ATM kiosk, the man withdrew Rs40,000 from his account using his debit card through four different transactions using the ATM card.
