3 held for stealing cloth consignment worth ` 1.9 crore
Navi Mumbai crime branch has arrested three people who had fled after selling a cloth consignment meant for export.
The police have recovered around Rs1.70 crore worth of consignment from them. They are looking out for two more accused.
The arrested accused are Subhash Mangilal Jain, 52, Mukesh Sharma, 34, and Ashwin Shivash alias Ajay, 26.
According to police commissioner Prabhat Ranjan, “Anil Kavad, a trader from Bhiwandi, had received an export order of 12 t onnes of synthetic cloth worth Rs1.96 crore from Nigeria.”
He added, “The consignment had been sent to JNPT port for export by him, however it was taken to Delhi where it was sold to another trader.”
Ranjan said three teams of crime branch and Khandeshwar police station were formed to investigate into the matter. “Our investigations led us to Vapi in Gujarat, Delhi and Bhiwandi. We finally learnt that the accused were in Delhi,” he said.
The t hree accused were arrested on April 30 by a police team that went over to Delhi.
Ranjan said , “Following their interrogation, we managed to locate the trader to whom the cloth had been sold and seized the consignment. We are now looking for the two accomplices of the arrested accused.”
The seized truck with the stolen goods parked at CP Office in CBD Belapur on Friday.
