NAVI MUM­BAI: A 47-year-old woman lost Rs 70,000 to a card fraud­ster who was wait­ing for her at an ATM to make a kill on Sun­day. The Kalam­boli police reg­is­tered a case on Tues­day.

Ac­cord­ing to the police, Asha Gaik­wad, a res­i­dent of Sec­tor 17, went to with­draw cash from her hus­band’s ac­count from an ATM kiosk on Sun­day morn­ing.

In­side the kiosk, she found an uniden­ti­fied man wait­ing. Ac­cord­ing to Gaik­wad, the per­son vol­un­teered to help her in with­draw­ing the cash. “Gaik­wad gave him his ATM card and the PIN num­ber. Af­ter the with­drawal, the man kept her card with him and gave her an­other one. She did not re­alise that be­cause the card looked sim­i­lar,” said P Ban­jare, an in­spec­tor with Kalam­boli police sta­tion.

Af­ter a few hours, Gaik­wad’s hus­band re­ceived mes­sages on his phone that Rs 70,000 has been with­drawn from his ac­count. While Rs 30,000 was with­drawn us­ing the ATM card, Rs 40,000 was trans­ferred to an­other bank ac­count. The police have reg­is­tered a case un­der Sec­tion 420 of the In­dian Pe­nal Code and Sec­tion 66c of the IT Act.
