WOMAN LOSES `70,000 TO CARD FRAUDSTER
NAVI MUMBAI: A 47-year-old woman lost Rs 70,000 to a card fraudster who was waiting for her at an ATM to make a kill on Sunday. The Kalamboli police registered a case on Tuesday.
According to the police, Asha Gaikwad, a resident of Sector 17, went to withdraw cash from her husband’s account from an ATM kiosk on Sunday morning.
Inside the kiosk, she found an unidentified man waiting. According to Gaikwad, the person volunteered to help her in withdrawing the cash. “Gaikwad gave him his ATM card and the PIN number. After the withdrawal, the man kept her card with him and gave her another one. She did not realise that because the card looked similar,” said P Banjare, an inspector with Kalamboli police station.
After a few hours, Gaikwad’s husband received messages on his phone that Rs 70,000 has been withdrawn from his account. While Rs 30,000 was withdrawn using the ATM card, Rs 40,000 was transferred to another bank account. The police have registered a case under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 66c of the IT Act.
