After protest call against Cidco, some builders get cautious
CBD BELAPUR: Even as a number of developers have gone on record blaming the City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) for the suicide of builder Raj Kandhari, a section of developers have decided to take a cautious approach on the issue.
After Kandhari, 44, director of Swaraj Builders and Developers Group, shot himself on Monday and succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, the developers had blamed Cidco.
The police had said he was going through financial loses but probe is on.
Alleging delays in clearances of their projects, they sported black bands at Kandhari’s funeral and said they would stage massive morcha to Cidco office.
Ashok Chhajer, CMD of Arihant Superstructures Ltd, had said: “Kandhari had been very upset about not getting clearance for his NAINA region project for the past three years. He said he was tired of repaying the loans taken and the interest. The investors were also demanding their money back and the buyers too were after him.”
A day later, some builders are cautious about what step to take as police investigation is on.
A developer said on Thursday, “Several issues related to the suicide are coming to the fore. Most importantly, we have learnt that Kandhari had indulged in overtrading which led to a huge financial burden on him. That could have triggered the extreme step.”
He added, “Some personal issues too have cropped up. All sorts of allegations are also being made against him.”
The developer said, “In such a scenario, blaming Cidco for the suicide does not make much sense. It is not as if there is any suicide note left by him which implicates Cidco officials.”
A top office-bearer of a developers’ organisation said: “We need to wait and understand what really led to the suicide. The police are investigating the matter and a lot of things are coming to the fore. We will not rush into blaming anyone.”
