Even as the number of homeless people in Navi Mumbai is increasing day by day, the NMMC has not conducted any recent survey to know the real number of them.

The NMMC does not have any guidelines for providing a place in their night shelter. People come and stay there as long as they want. No one is thrown out unless inmates leave on their own.

As the rules and regulations for verifying the background of the inmates are not so strict, it could also be a threat to the law and order situations in the city.

Apart from bed and clean water, the inmates are also provided with locker facility to keep their belongings.

Because of migration from the droughtaffected areas, child-begging cases have increased in Navi Mumbai. The civic body does not have any plan to open any day care centre for such children.

The community centre at Turbhe will house the homeless.
