POLICE HEAR GRIEVANCES OF CHEATED HOMEBUYERS
Homebuyers who have been cheated in Panvel were assured by Khandeshwar police that their cases would be looked.
Many people in Panvel have been cheated by bogus developers over the years and have been cheated of crores. With little action by the police, the cases have risen over the years.
Following directions by minister of state for home Ranjit Patil, the police had called a meeting on Friday. A large number of people assembled for the meet, pleading with the police to help them get their hard-earned money back.
MLA Prashant Thakur, who was present at the meeting, has assured the complainants that he will follow up on the issue. Thakur said: “The government is working on making strict laws in this regard so that tough action can be taken.”
There have been several instances in Panvel taluka’s Nere, Wakdi, Bhanghar and Sukapur where developers have put signboards on lands belonging to the villagers offering homes to gullible buyers.
People have paid between Rs1 lakh and Rs10 lakh for such houses.
Local activist Abhijit Patil formed Navi Mumbai Action Forum and took up such cases. It led to the arrest of Mahendra Patil of Tirupati Balaji company who is accused of cheating several people of crores of rupees. Panvel’s Citizen Unity Forum, a social organization too took up the issue and met Patil.
Arun Bhise, president of CUF, said: “We complained that the police take time to arrest the accused and that complaints are not registered and clubbed together.”
Since the problem is much bigger in Panvel region, DCP Zone II Vishwas Pandhare called the meeting of the complainants.
Pandhere said, “We gave details of the action taken against the developers who had cheated people, the present status of the cases and so on.”
Pandhere said, “We will give details of the progress of the Tirupati Balaji company case every month to the representatives of the complainants. We will ensure that they get justice.”
