As per the Right To Ed­u­ca­tion

Act, it is the re­spon­si­bil­ity of the lo­cal self gov­ern­ment bod­ies like the cor­po­ra­tion or the zilla parishad to en­sure that no child be­tween the age of 6 and 14 years re­mains un­e­d­u­cated in their ju­ris­dic­tion.

Ed­u­ca­tion should be free till

the age of 18 years for phys­i­cally chal­lenged chil­dren.

Ev­ery child should be able to seek ad­mis­sion in any school within a kilo­me­tre from his home till class 8 and later in any school which is at a dis­tance of 3 km from his home.
