Car hits two ve­hi­cles at Vashi, driver booked

The po­lice have reg­is­tered a case af­ter one car hit two oth­ers that were parked on the road early on Wed­nes­day. The driver of the first car was drunk when the ac­ci­dent took place.

Ac­cord­ing to the po­lice the two cars were parked on the road in front of Sainath Col­lege at sec­tor 9. Around 12.15 am, the driver of the first car lost con­trol and hit the cars when he was pass­ing by that area.

All three cars were dam­aged. “The driver was alone in the first car and he did not suf­fer any in­jury in the ac­ci­dent. There were no one in­side the parked cars,” said S Kolekar, po­lice sub in­spec­tor of Vashi po­lice sta­tion.

The po­lice have reg­is­tered a case un­der sec­tion 184 and 185 of the Mo­tor Ve­hi­cle Act against the driver. “The area where the other two cars were parked was not a park­ing area. How­ever, since the driver of the first cars hit them in an ine­bri­ated state we have reg­is­tered a case against him,” an­other po­lice of­fi­cer said.

Ac­cord­ing to the sources from the Navi Mum­bai traf­fic depart­ment, be­tween Jan­uary and April the po­lice col­lected a to­tal of Rs8,60,100 fine from 718 drunk driv­ers.
