Cidco leasehold land will be converted to freehold: Mhatre
The Cidco leased land on which the city of Navi Mumbai has developed could soon be converted into freehold land, giving ownership to the residents of the city.
The project-affect people (PAP) could get transfer of development rights (TDR) for the 3.75% of land deducted from their compensatory 12.5% land by Cidco for providing infrastructure.
This and more such announcements are expected to be made in the government resolution that the state government is expected to issue in a month for regularization of pre-2012 need-based houses of the project-affected people.
The announcements were made by Belapur MLA Manda Mhatre on Thursday at a press conference.
Mhatre, who has been following up on the issues with the state government, held a meeting with principal secretary of urban development department Nitin Kareer and Cidco vice-chairman and managing director Bhushan Gagrani on Wednesday.
She has submitted 13 points for the regularisation of PAP need-based houses.
Speaking to mediapersons, Mhatre said, “Cidco has given land on lease in the city for 60 years, of which 40 years are over. The next generation could face problem if after 20 years the agency asks for its land back.”
She added, “In Aurangabad, Cidco has given land on freehold and so there cannot be a different rule for Navi Mumbai.”
Mhatre said that Cidco has sent a letter to the state government, asking it to convert the leasehold land to freehold land. “This will give residents permanent ownership of the land on which the buildings have been built,” she said.
She added, “Cidco had deducted 3.75% from the 12.5% land given to PAP for developing infrastructure. I have asked that they be given TDR in lieu of that deducted land so that they get the full compensation promised to them.”
Mhatre said that the officials have asked her to give them more suggestions from the public so that they can be incorporated in the GR which will be issued within a month.
“Residents can through me or other channels give their suggestions to the government on the issue at the earliest,” she said.
