Chain snatcher arrested, stolen booty seized
NAVI MUMBAI: A 36-year-old chain snatcher, who had been operating in the city for the past four years, was arrested by the Navi Mumbai crime branch on Wednesday. The police have also recovered stolen jewellery worth Rs2.13 lakh from him.
According to the police, the accused Satrughna Sudam Bhopi had been externed by the Navi Mumbai police a few months ago. He snatched some gold chains after secretly entering the city a couple of days ago and was hiding in Panvel.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team lead by assistant police inspector Ajit Shinde arrested him from his hideout before he could flee. Apart from jewellery, the police have also recovered one two-wheeler from his possession.
“The accused has a total of 27 cases registered against him in different police stations of Navi Mumbai and other places. The Panvel, Khandeshwar and Kharghar police have registered four cases against him in the past few weeks,” Shinde said.
