Chain snatcher ar­rested, stolen booty seized

NAVI MUM­BAI: A 36-year-old chain snatcher, who had been op­er­at­ing in the city for the past four years, was ar­rested by the Navi Mum­bai crime branch on Wed­nes­day. The po­lice have also re­cov­ered stolen jew­ellery worth Rs2.13 lakh from him.

Ac­cord­ing to the po­lice, the ac­cused Sa­trughna Su­dam Bhopi had been ex­terned by the Navi Mum­bai po­lice a few months ago. He snatched some gold chains af­ter se­cretly en­ter­ing the city a cou­ple of days ago and was hid­ing in Pan­vel.

Act­ing on a tip-off, a po­lice team lead by as­sis­tant po­lice in­spec­tor Ajit Shinde ar­rested him from his hide­out be­fore he could flee. Apart from jew­ellery, the po­lice have also re­cov­ered one two-wheeler from his pos­ses­sion.

“The ac­cused has a to­tal of 27 cases reg­is­tered against him in dif­fer­ent po­lice sta­tions of Navi Mum­bai and other places. The Pan­vel, Khan­desh­war and Kharghar po­lice have reg­is­tered four cases against him in the past few weeks,” Shinde said.
