NMMC chief sus­pends deputy over ad­min­is­tra­tive ir­reg­u­lar­ity

CBD BE­LA­PUR: In a shock­ing ac­tion, mu­nic­i­pal com­mis­sioner Tukaram Munde on Wednesday sus­pended civic as­ses­sor and col­lec­tor, deputy mu­nic­i­pal com­mis­sioner (prop­erty tax) Prakash Kulka­rni.

Kulka­rni has, for years, headed the depart­ment that ac­counts for one of the big­gest sources of rev­enue for NMMC.

When con­tacted, deputy mu­nic­i­pal com­mis­sioner (ad­min­is­tra­tion) Ja­gan­nath Sin­narkar con­firmed, “He has been sus­pended by the com­mis­sioner.”

Asked the rea­son for the sud­den de­ci­sion, he said, “The sus­pen­sion or­der states that he has been sus­pended for ‘ad­min­is­tra­tive ir­reg­u­lar­ity’.”

Sin­narkar said that he did not have fur­ther de­tails.

Since tak­ing charge of the of­fice, Munde has is­sued strict in­struc­tions to his of­fi­cials and em­ploy­ees to en­sure dis­ci­pline in their work­ing style and en­sure ac­count­abil­ity and trans­parency.

He is known to make sur­prise vis­its to ward of­fices and depart­ments.

His or­ders had led to per­son­nel re­port­ing on time at the civic head­quar­ters and ward of­fices, all wear­ing their iden­tity cards as well as lit­tle rush at the can­teens.

Mu­nic­i­pal Com­mis­sioner Tukaram Munde has lost no time in en­sur­ing that the civic ad­min­is­tra­tion gets a clear idea of his style of func­tion­ing.

He has is­sued clear in­struc­tions to all the ward of­fi­cers on how he ex­pects the ward of­fices to func­tion to en­sure that the res­i­dents do not face any has­sle.

Ac­cord­ing to deputy mu­nic­i­pal com­mis­sioner (admn) Ja­gan­nath Sin­narkar, “To en­sure com­plete of­fice dis­ci­pline, the com­mis­sioner has or­dered that the of­fi­cials and per­son­nel should be busy at their of­fice with their work, dur­ing the of­fice hours be­tween 10 am and 5.45 pm.”

He added, “In­struc­tions have been is­sued that all should en­sure that the lunch time will be a max­i­mum of half an hour be­tween 1 pm and 2 pm. All of­fi­cials and per­son­nel, should, be­fore leav­ing NMMC ju­ris­dic­tion dur­ing public and weekly hol­i­day should take prior per­mis­sion of ward of­fi­cer or depart­men­tal head.”

“All ward of­fi­cers should take prior per­mis­sion of the com­mis­sioner in sim­i­lar cases.”
