NMMC chief suspends deputy over administrative irregularity
CBD BELAPUR: In a shocking action, municipal commissioner Tukaram Munde on Wednesday suspended civic assessor and collector, deputy municipal commissioner (property tax) Prakash Kulkarni.
Kulkarni has, for years, headed the department that accounts for one of the biggest sources of revenue for NMMC.
When contacted, deputy municipal commissioner (administration) Jagannath Sinnarkar confirmed, “He has been suspended by the commissioner.”
Asked the reason for the sudden decision, he said, “The suspension order states that he has been suspended for ‘administrative irregularity’.”
Sinnarkar said that he did not have further details.
Since taking charge of the office, Munde has issued strict instructions to his officials and employees to ensure discipline in their working style and ensure accountability and transparency.
He is known to make surprise visits to ward offices and departments.
His orders had led to personnel reporting on time at the civic headquarters and ward offices, all wearing their identity cards as well as little rush at the canteens.
Municipal Commissioner Tukaram Munde has lost no time in ensuring that the civic administration gets a clear idea of his style of functioning.
He has issued clear instructions to all the ward officers on how he expects the ward offices to function to ensure that the residents do not face any hassle.
According to deputy municipal commissioner (admn) Jagannath Sinnarkar, “To ensure complete office discipline, the commissioner has ordered that the officials and personnel should be busy at their office with their work, during the office hours between 10 am and 5.45 pm.”
He added, “Instructions have been issued that all should ensure that the lunch time will be a maximum of half an hour between 1 pm and 2 pm. All officials and personnel, should, before leaving NMMC jurisdiction during public and weekly holiday should take prior permission of ward officer or departmental head.”
“All ward officers should take prior permission of the commissioner in similar cases.”
