Protest against delay in nod for redevelopment
CBD BELAPUR: Residents of the dilapidated JN type buildings of Vashi have decided to organize a massive morcha on Sunday, against NMMC and CIDCO to protest the delay in granting permissions for the re- development of the CIDCO-constructed buildings.
The men residing in the buildings have decided to participate in the morcha in their undergarments, wearing just chaddi and banyan. Several will later shave their heads. The women will beat thalis as a mark of protest. The protestors will then initiate a fast.
The morcha, to be held between 5 pm and 7 pm will start from Albela Tower at sector 9 in Vashi and head to Shivaji Chowk, then head to Vashi fire brigade, Vashi vegetable market.
From there, it will proceed to the police chowkie to Chhatrapati Sambhaji garden, Jai Maharashtra Association, Mahalaxmi Owners Apartment and end at Shraddha JN association.
Said Nilesh Mhatre, a local resident, “It has been over a year since the government issued a notification granting 2.5 FSI for the redevelopment of dilapidated CIDCO construction buildings in the city. However, the NMMC has despite applications, not yet given permission to any building for the same.”
He added, “We are risking our lives living here but the authorities seem to care little. The monsoons are due soon and once again it will be hell for us. We want to draw the attention of NMMC and CIDCO towards our plight.”
NMMC officials were not available for comment.
