THANE: A maintenance surveyor from the city’s survey office was arrested on Wednesday for accepting a bribe of Rs1.50 lakh. A case has been registered at the Thane Nagar police station.

“The victim wanted a site map and the land to be measured as he wanted to construct a building at Charai to which the officer demanded Rs3 lakh,” said Rajesh Bagalkote, police officer, Thane anti-corruption bureau (ACB).

“We caught him while he was accepting Rs1.50 lakh,” he added.

He was identified as Ramesh Sarkate, 52.

According to police, it was on Tuesday when the victim was told about the bribe.

He then informed ACB and a trap was laid.

Sarkate sent his friend to accept the money and was caught red-handed at Thane Nagar around 2pm.
