KDMC to raze 635 unsafe buildings
KALYAN: The Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) is set to raze 635 dilapidated buildings to ensure the safety of residents in and around these structures.
It aims to finish the demolition work for vacant buildings by June 6 while for occupied ones it will send notices to residents, asking them to move out.
“Once residents receive notices from ward offices, they should vacate the building, or else officials will forcefully remove them,” said E Ravendiran, KDMC commissioner. Last year in July, nine residents were killed and 15 injured when a three-storey Thakurli building collapsed during the heavy downpour.
To avoid a repeat of this tragedy, the civic body has decided to demolish all decrepit buildings before the monsoon sets in.
As per the survey conducted by the civic body, followed by structural audit, it has come across 297 dilapidated and 338 extremely dilapidated buildings in its jurisdiction.
The civic body is yet to gather information on 27 villages in E ward.
