Beware of ‘cops’, say city police
NAVI MUMBAI: The city police have registered three cases of people being cheated by conmen in the past week.
Sujit Jha, 32, a resident of sector 11 in Vashi, was accosted by two unidentified people near the post office by two men, who introduced themselves as officials of the anti-narcotics cell. They then looted him of Rs20,173 and fled.
In the second incident, three fake policemen looted a senior citizen of gold chain worth Rs46,000.
Now, Kopar Khairane police have arrested a 23-year-old man on Wednesday who allegedly cheated a 19-year-old woman by promising her a job in the police department.
The accused, Rahul Patil, introduced himself as the assistant commissioner of police (ACP) and took Rs75,000 from Komal Lokare, 19.
Once he got the money, Patil started avoiding her phone calls.
