Be­ware of ‘cops’, say city po­lice

NAVI MUM­BAI: The city po­lice have reg­is­tered three cases of peo­ple be­ing cheated by con­men in the past week.

Su­jit Jha, 32, a res­i­dent of sec­tor 11 in Vashi, was ac­costed by two uniden­ti­fied peo­ple near the post of­fice by two men, who in­tro­duced them­selves as of­fi­cials of the anti-nar­cotics cell. They then looted him of Rs20,173 and fled.

In the sec­ond in­ci­dent, three fake po­lice­men looted a se­nior cit­i­zen of gold chain worth Rs46,000.

Now, Kopar Khairane po­lice have ar­rested a 23-year-old man on Wed­nes­day who al­legedly cheated a 19-year-old wo­man by promis­ing her a job in the po­lice depart­ment.

The ac­cused, Rahul Patil, in­tro­duced him­self as the as­sis­tant com­mis­sioner of po­lice (ACP) and took Rs75,000 from Ko­mal Lokare, 19.

Once he got the money, Patil started avoid­ing her phone calls.
