Po­lice­man dies in ac­ci­dent in Uran

NAVI MUMBAI: A 52-year-old po­lice­man at­tached with coastal se­cu­rity of Raigad po­lice died in a road ac­ci­dent after his twowheeler col­lided with a bus near Uran early on Wed­nes­day.

The po­lice ar­rested the bus driver, Pradeep Joshi, 33, from the spot.

Va­man Koli, a res­i­dent of Dadar vil­lage near Pen, was trav­el­ling on his bike around 2.30 am, po­lice said. The mini-bus, which had some pas­sen­gers on board, was com­ing from the op­po­site di­rec­tion and it rammed into his two-wheeler.

“Koli suf­fered se­vere in­juries on his head and other parts of his body and he died on the spot. He was rushed to a nearby hos­pi­tal, but he was de­clared brought dead on ar­rival,” said a po­lice of­fi­cer from the Uran po­lice sta­tion.

The drive was booked un­der Sec­tions 304A, 279, 337, 338 of the In­dian Pe­nal Code and sec­tion 184 of the Mo­tor Ve­hi­cle Act.

The po­lice ruled out drinkdriv­ing an­gle in the mishap.

The vic­tim’s body was sent to the Pan­vel ru­ral hos­pi­tal for a post mortem and was handed over to his fam­ily.
