Policeman dies in accident in Uran
NAVI MUMBAI: A 52-year-old policeman attached with coastal security of Raigad police died in a road accident after his twowheeler collided with a bus near Uran early on Wednesday.
The police arrested the bus driver, Pradeep Joshi, 33, from the spot.
Vaman Koli, a resident of Dadar village near Pen, was travelling on his bike around 2.30 am, police said. The mini-bus, which had some passengers on board, was coming from the opposite direction and it rammed into his two-wheeler.
“Koli suffered severe injuries on his head and other parts of his body and he died on the spot. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but he was declared brought dead on arrival,” said a police officer from the Uran police station.
The drive was booked under Sections 304A, 279, 337, 338 of the Indian Penal Code and section 184 of the Motor Vehicle Act.
The police ruled out drinkdriving angle in the mishap.
The victim’s body was sent to the Panvel rural hospital for a post mortem and was handed over to his family.
