CBD BELAPUR: Municipal commissioner Tukaram Munde inaugurated a ‘host to host’ scheme at the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) on Tuesday.

Under the scheme, contractors and suppliers will no longer have to run across departments for their payments. The amounts due to them will be directly deposited in their accounts.

Munde has stressed on e-governance to provide efficient services to the residents of the city. Chief accounts and finance officer Dhanraj Garad said, “The pilot project in NMMC is better than the RTGS system.”

“The power access is being implemented in association with Axis Bank Ltd. It will help speed up work in the civic body,” said Garad. “Contractors and suppliers will not have to come to NMMC headquarters to collect cheques as the payments will go directly to their bank accounts. It will help save time, efforts and money. It will also help bring transparency,” said Garad.

The decision has been welcomed by the contractors. “This is a good move as it will make our life much easier and also help curb corruption,” said a contractor.
