On Fe­bru­ary 28, 2002, Gul­berg So­ci­ety, a Mus­lim-dom­i­nated hous­ing com­plex in Ahmed­abad’s Meghan­i­na­gar, was at­tacked by an armed mob

The in­ci­dent came a day af­ter 58 kar­se­vaks were killed when Sabar­mati Ex­press’s S-6 coach was set on fire at Godhra sta­tion

Pros­e­cu­tion said vi­o­lence at Gul­berg So­ci­ety started at 8am and con­tin­ued till 5pm

A mob of around 1,000 peo­ple lynched 69 res­i­dents — in­clud­ing for­mer Congress MP Eh­saan Jafri — set prop­er­ties on fire and raped women

This is one of the nine post-Godhra riot cases in­ves­ti­gated by the Supreme Court-ap­pointed spe­cial in­ves­ti­ga­tion team (SIT)
