Two men brutally assaulted, murdered
KALYAN: The watchman of a housing society at Titwala and his cousin were murdered and their bodies mutilated by a gang of youth who accosted them demanding money for alcohol early on Thursday, police said.
The victims, both from Nepal, were strolling on the ground near the housing society where one of them, Raju Sunar (25), a watchman, when five youth in their teens who had been drinking surrounded them and asked them for money.
When Raju and his cousin Madan Sunar (25) told them they had no money, the youths tried to search their pockets.
The two resisted and in the scuffle Raju hit one of the attackers, Anil Pateniya, 19, on the head with a brick, said senior police inspector from Titwala police station, V Andhale.
Pateniya, who works with t he Ulhasnagar Municipal Cor poration on a contract basis, started bleeding and then he and his friends pulled out knives and carved up the two victims, police said.
They mutilated the bodies, smashing in the faces with stones and cutting off the genitals of one of them.
The five --Hardiksingh Gill, Ram Dembani (18), Raj Shirvani (18), and a minor aged 14 years, besides Pateniya – then fled the scene, police said. The youth are known history-sheeters, police said.
The two victims were taken to a nearby hospital after a resident of the housing society alerted the police but were declared dead on arrival.
“We immediately conducted a nakabandi in all areas. Around 7am, we saw two boys, Pateniya and the minor boy, heading t owards Ulhasna g ar near Titwala junction. We noticed that one of them had blood stains on his shir t , ” said Andhale.
The police managed to catch the minor but Pateniya fled on a bike but was chased down.
The others were arrested a short while later.
