Road repair work begins in Kharghar, project to cost ` 1 cr
KHARGHAR: The City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) has begun road repair work in Sector 34 and 35 of Kharghar to ensure a hassle-free monsoon this year.
The Cidco has appointed a contractor for the work that is expected to cost Rs1.38 crore.
The Sector 35 area straddling several high rises has for long been suffering from bad roads and broken footpaths.
Spurred by the protest by residents last year, the planning body had done patch work in June last year.
Later, the residents were assured that the remaining work will be taken up after Diwali. Cidco, however, did not start the repair which upset residents.
“No road work has been done in some areas of Sector 34 and
35. The road from Tharwani to MSEDCL office is full of sludge in the monsoon. Residents have to make their way through it in the rainy season,” said Pranit Patil, a local resident.
VT Ravi, Cidco executive engineer, said, “We have appointed
Ajwani Agency for the road repair. The project will cost Rs1.38 crore.”
“The roads will be asphalted prior to the monsoon. Once the monsoon is over, we will take up the remaining road, footpath and manhole works,” he added.
