NAVI MUMBAI: Eight people were arrested after the police conducted a raid at a gambling den at Turbhe MIDC on Thursday night.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by deputy commissioner of police (zone 1) Prashant Khaire raided the gambling den at Turbhe Naka and arrested the eight.
Rajesh Pandarinath Jadhav, 34, who was running the den, is also among those arrested.
“When our people reached the spot, the suspects were found playing cards. We arrested all of them when we learnt that they were playing for money. An FIR has been registered with Turbhe police station,” Khaire said.
“We are also taking action against people drinking in the open and people running flesh trade,” said another police officer.
The police said they are sending their personnel to beauty parlours, massage centres and other places in civil clothes to check for illegal activities.
“Whenever we find something amiss in those places, we will conduct raids there and take legal action against the owners,” said Khaire.
“We appeal to the residents to inform us if they get to know about any illicit activity going on in their neighbourhood. Identity of the informers will be kept secret,” he added.
