8-YEAR-OLD GIRL MISSING FROM VASHI FOUND IN MALAD
NAVI MUMBAI: An eight-year-old girl, who went missing from Vashi around three months ago, has been traced with her mother in Malad.
Under Operation Muskan, the anti-human trafficking cell of Navi Mumbai police started searching for the missing girl on February 22.
She was finally found with her mother who stays with another man after she left the girl’s father around a year ago.
According to the police, the girl’s parents had tied knot around 10 years ago.
“The husband is addicted to alcohol and that led to frequent quarrel between the couple. Last year, the woman left her husband and went to stay with the other man in Malad. The girl however, continued to stay with her husband only,” said one police officer.
After the girl went missing in February, the woman’s husband registered an FIR with Vashi police.
“We learnt that the woman’s mother and younger brother stay in Andhra Pradesh. We coordinated with them and got some details about the woman. Finally we raided her place in Malad and rescued the girl,” he said.
The police however, have not arrested the mother, as she had not harmed the girl. However, a case under section 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against her.
“The girl will be produced before the Child Welfare Committee, which will decide with whom the girl would stay,” the police officer said.
