8-YEAR-OLD GIRL MISS­ING FROM VASHI FOUND IN MALAD

NAVI MUM­BAI: An eight-year-old girl, who went miss­ing from Vashi around three months ago, has been traced with her mother in Malad.

Un­der Op­er­a­tion Muskan, the anti-hu­man traf­fick­ing cell of Navi Mum­bai po­lice started search­ing for the miss­ing girl on Fe­bru­ary 22.

She was fi­nally found with her mother who stays with an­other man af­ter she left the girl’s fa­ther around a year ago.

Ac­cord­ing to the po­lice, the girl’s par­ents had tied knot around 10 years ago.

“The hus­band is ad­dicted to al­co­hol and that led to fre­quent quar­rel be­tween the cou­ple. Last year, the woman left her hus­band and went to stay with the other man in Malad. The girl how­ever, con­tin­ued to stay with her hus­band only,” said one po­lice of­fi­cer.

Af­ter the girl went miss­ing in Fe­bru­ary, the woman’s hus­band reg­is­tered an FIR with Vashi po­lice.

“We learnt that the woman’s mother and younger brother stay in Andhra Pradesh. We co­or­di­nated with them and got some de­tails about the woman. Fi­nally we raided her place in Malad and res­cued the girl,” he said.

The po­lice how­ever, have not ar­rested the mother, as she had not harmed the girl. How­ever, a case un­der sec­tion 336 (act en­dan­ger­ing life or per­sonal safety of oth­ers) of the In­dian Pe­nal Code (IPC) has been reg­is­tered against her.

“The girl will be pro­duced be­fore the Child Wel­fare Com­mit­tee, which will de­cide with whom the girl would stay,” the po­lice of­fi­cer said.
