2 vehicle thieves arrested, 17 two-wheelers seized
NERUL: Two people were arrested for stealing two-wheelers which they sold in the city and Mumbai region. The police have recovered 17 two-wheelers.
Following an increase in the number of vehicle thefts in the city, the police are on their toes and intensified their investigations.
Deputy commissioner of police (zone I) Prashant Khaire said, “We are going through the CCTV footage of the areas where the vehicle thefts have taken place to identify the culprits.”
He said, “Following the study of one such footage, the Nerul police did an excellent job of investigation and arrested two history-sheeters for the vehicle thefts.”
The accused have been identified as Kamran alias Rafiq Khan, 53, and Ismail Shaikh, 35.
Senior police inspector of Nerul police station, Adhikrao Pol, said: “We have been concentrating on vehicle thefts in Nerul. Assistant police inspector Vasudev More and Sushilkumar Gaikwad and their team were looking out for history-sheeters.”
He added, “They managed to get Kamran, a resident of Ulwe. During his interrogation, he confessed to stealing two-wheelers.”
“Following information provided by him, we then picked up Ismail from Govandi. Their interrogation led us to recover 17 bikes which they had sold at various locations. The seized vehicles are worth Rs4.2 lakh,” said Pol.
Pol said, “Our investigations are on to recover more vehicles that these accused may have stolen.” Khaire has announced a reward of Rs10,000 to the investigating team.
