Two minors among three held for stealing two-wheelers
CBD BELAPUR: The Navi Mumbai crime branch has arrested a notorious vehicle thief, leading to the recovery of seven stolen motorcycles.
The accused has been identified as Mohammed Hassan Muchchda, 28, a resident of Azad Nagar in Mumbra-Kausa.
According to police commissioner Hemant Nagrale, “A Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle had been stolen from the parking area outside Jui Nagar railway station. The case was being investigated by crime branch unit 3.”
He added, “The team managed to get Muchchda who is part of a gang that specialises in vehicle thefts on May 27. His interrogation revealed that he committed the crime along with two minors, both residents of Kausa-Mumbra. The duo were detained on June 1.”
Nagrale said, “We recovered seven motorcycles worth Rs3.6 lakh. These include vehicles stolen from jurisdictions of Nerul police station, Mumbra police station, Shanti Nagar police station, Mumbai RCF police station and Shirdi police station.
“The accused would change the registration numbers of the vehicles and sell them to people. They would state that they will give the documents in a few days.” He added, “Two of the motorcycles we have recovered have the same registration number which the accused had put up.”
Police are investigating more such crimes committed by the gang.
