Cases filed against 8 for illegal constructions
KOPAR KHAIRANE: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has intensified its drive against illegal constructions and encroachments in the city.
Apart from undertaking antiencroachment and demolition drives, the NMMC has begun filing police cases against the violators.
Cases have been filed against eight persons and organisations in Kopar Khairane for defacing the city and other violations under the MRTP Act.
“After anti-encroachment drive at FAM society in Kopar Khairane, police cases have been filed. The drive will be continued,” said Jagannath Sinnarkar, deputy municipal commissioner, NMMC.
The NMMC was cracking the whip against violators after municipal commissioner Tukaram Mundhe’s orders.
“In Kopar Khairane, police cases have been filed against Akshay Korde, Misal House, Swami Vivekanand Junior College of Science and Commerce for putting up illegal banners and defacing public property,” he informed.
Rajit Yeole, Pandharinath Shinde, Dnaneshwar Konde, Asha Savkhede, Ramdhyan Singh and residents of SS2-type buildings in Sector 4, 6 and 18 have been booked under MRTP Act 1966 for violations related to construction, Sinnarkar said.
The commissioner also asked all ward officers to keep the area encroachment free.
