Mum­bra con­sta­ble ar­rested for ac­cept­ing `10,000 bribe

THANE: A 30-year-old po­lice con­sta­ble was ar­rested by the Thane Anti-Cor­rup­tion Bureau (ACB) on Thurs­day evening for ac­cept­ing a bribe of Rs10,000 to help bail out an ac­cused. The con­sta­ble has been iden­ti­fied as Sachin Maruti Jad­hav, 30, a res­i­dent of Pi­pli, Belapur road in Navi Mum­bai. He is at­tached to the Mum­bra po­lice sta­tion.

Mo­hammed Yasin Ab­dul Kadir, 23, had been booked for a theft at Mum­bra. A week ear­lier, Jad­hav was ap­proached by the ac­cused’s fa­ther Shaikh Ab­dul Mo­hammed Kader Hus­sain, 50, a res­i­dent of Mum­bra.

He re­quested Jad­hav to help his son. Jad­hav de­manded Rs 20,000 but the bribe was re­duced to Rs10,000. Shaikh ap­proached the ACB. A trap was laid on Thurs­day at the Mum­bra po­lice sta­tion. “On Thurs­day, Jad­hav was at the po­lice sta­tion when Shaikh Ab­dul came to hand over the money. Jad­hav was taken to the po­lice sta­tion and a com­plaint lodged against him,” said po­lice in­spec­tor Kah­naiya Tho­rat, ACB.
