Mumbra constable arrested for accepting `10,000 bribe
THANE: A 30-year-old police constable was arrested by the Thane Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday evening for accepting a bribe of Rs10,000 to help bail out an accused. The constable has been identified as Sachin Maruti Jadhav, 30, a resident of Pipli, Belapur road in Navi Mumbai. He is attached to the Mumbra police station.
Mohammed Yasin Abdul Kadir, 23, had been booked for a theft at Mumbra. A week earlier, Jadhav was approached by the accused’s father Shaikh Abdul Mohammed Kader Hussain, 50, a resident of Mumbra.
He requested Jadhav to help his son. Jadhav demanded Rs 20,000 but the bribe was reduced to Rs10,000. Shaikh approached the ACB. A trap was laid on Thursday at the Mumbra police station. “On Thursday, Jadhav was at the police station when Shaikh Abdul came to hand over the money. Jadhav was taken to the police station and a complaint lodged against him,” said police inspector Kahnaiya Thorat, ACB.
