Municipal Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe held a marathon 8 hour meeting with the officials of the engineering department of NMMC recently. He is reported to have taken the officials to task for the pending development projects in the city.

Mundhe told the officials that henceforth no extensions will be given without valid reason and demanded that the works be completed in time and their quality be ensured. He has also issued show cause notices to some officials for alleged negligence in work.

Not one major project of the civic body has been completed on time. Almost every contractor is regularly given repeated extensions. The slow pace of work results in cost escalation that is borne by the civic treasury.

A source said, “The commissioner stated that public money needs to be used well. He was upset with the increase in costs due to the delays. He issued show cause notices to some officials for negligence in work.”
