A buffalo fell into an open sewage drainage at Ovala Naka, opposite Mahindra showroom, in Thane on Saturday. Passers-by gathered and tried to pull it out but they couldn’t. The fire brigade was called. After four hours, the fire personnel pulled the buffalo out. Rajendra Patil, a resident, said: “There has been no cover on the manhole drainage for more than a year now. There are many such open manholes in the area. Sandeep Malvi, public relations officer of TMC, said, “It is impossible that the manhole was open for a year. We checked all drains and manholes. There are miscreants who steal covers to earn a quick buck.”
