NAVI MUMBAI: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport has initiated a unique way to get more passengers in its short distance routes. You can now show your hand to stop the bus. The move comes in with an aim to make the undertaking profitable and more passengers friendly. “One need not go to a bus stop to catch a bus. Wave your hand and stop a bus. The initiative is only on short distance routes,” said an official.

The city finally got a hybrid bus on Monday. The bus will start plying from Vashi railway station to Mahape. Depending on the response, it will be introduced on other routes.

Routes yielding very low revenue have been stopped. “We have stopped five routes which were yielding low revenue which are bus numbers 32, 33 and 37 that ply in Nerul and 82, 84 in Airoli. The buses were not earning even the basic per km of Rs42 in case of a midi bus and Rs55 for standard bus,” said Sabu Daniel, chairman of NMMT.
