90% pre-mon­soon work com­pleted, says Cidco

CBD BE­LA­PUR: The City and In­dus­trial Devel­op­ment Cor­po­ra­tion (Cidco) has ini­ti­ated pre-mon­soon works in the south­ern nodes of Navi Mumbai - Kharghar, Kamothe, Dron­a­giri, Pan­vel, Karan­jade, Taloja, and Kalam­boli.

About 75% to 90% of the work has been com­pleted and ac­cord­ing to Cidco, the rest will be com­pleted within the next few days.

Works such as de­silt­ing, clean­ing storm wa­ter drains, clean­ing chan­nels and nul­lahs, re­mov­ing de­bris from roads and foot­paths, fix­ing flap gates to pipe out­lets for the proper dis­charge of rain wa­ter dur­ing heavy down­pours, trim­ming and cut­ting trees and branches have been un­der­taken.

“All the ma­jor pre-mon­soon work at Kharghar has been com­pleted. To avoid flood­ing, flap gates have been fixed at the pipe out­let struc­ture in sec­tor 16/17 of Kharghar to en­sure the proper dis­charge of wa­ter,” said

Mo­han Ni­nawe, se­nior pub­lic re­la­tions of­fi­cer, CIDCO.

He added, “At Dron­a­giri, 90% of the de­silt­ing work has been

com­pleted. Flap gates have been fixed at HP No. 4 & 5 and around Pagote, Nav­aghar and other vil­lages to avoid flood­ing. The re­main­ing work in the re­gion will be com­pleted by next week.”

“Al­most 75% of the work has been com­pleted at Kalam­boli. Sim­i­lar work has been un­der­taken at Kamothe, Pan­vel, Karan­jade, and Taloja.”

As part of preven­tive mea­sures, the sup­ply of ma­chiner­ies and labour­ers for con­struct­ing kutchha nul­lahs, cre­at­ing wa­ter­ways and the in­stal­la­tion of pumps for pump­ing out stag­nant wa­ter dur­ing the rains will be un­der­taken in case of emer­gen­cies.

Mit­con Engi­neer­ing Ser­vices has been ap­pointed as the dis­as­ter man­age­ment con­sul­tant to mon­i­tor all the pre-mon­soon works and ac­tion plans from June to Septem­ber. “They will help Cidco re­solve com­plaints re­gard­ing wa­ter log­ging, flood­ing and other in­ci­dents,” said Ni­nawe,
