90% pre-monsoon work completed, says Cidco
THE INSTALLATION OF PUMPS FOR PUMPING OUT STAGNANT WATER DURING THE RAINS WILL BE UNDERTAKEN IN CASE OF EMERGENCIES
CBD BELAPUR: The City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) has initiated pre-monsoon works in the southern nodes of Navi Mumbai - Kharghar, Kamothe, Dronagiri, Panvel, Karanjade, Taloja, and Kalamboli.
About 75% to 90% of the work has been completed and according to Cidco, the rest will be completed within the next few days.
Works such as desilting, cleaning storm water drains, cleaning channels and nullahs, removing debris from roads and footpaths, fixing flap gates to pipe outlets for the proper discharge of rain water during heavy downpours, trimming and cutting trees and branches have been undertaken.
“All the major pre-monsoon work at Kharghar has been completed. To avoid flooding, flap gates have been fixed at the pipe outlet structure in sector 16/17 of Kharghar to ensure the proper discharge of water,” said
Mohan Ninawe, senior public relations officer, CIDCO.
He added, “At Dronagiri, 90% of the desilting work has been
completed. Flap gates have been fixed at HP No. 4 & 5 and around Pagote, Navaghar and other villages to avoid flooding. The remaining work in the region will be completed by next week.”
“Almost 75% of the work has been completed at Kalamboli. Similar work has been undertaken at Kamothe, Panvel, Karanjade, and Taloja.”
As part of preventive measures, the supply of machineries and labourers for constructing kutchha nullahs, creating waterways and the installation of pumps for pumping out stagnant water during the rains will be undertaken in case of emergencies.
Mitcon Engineering Services has been appointed as the disaster management consultant to monitor all the pre-monsoon works and action plans from June to September. “They will help Cidco resolve complaints regarding water logging, flooding and other incidents,” said Ninawe,
