Ghansoli central park project stopped
CBD BELAPUR: Municipal commissioner Tukaram Mundhe has ordered stopping work on the central park project in Ghansoli.
The work was being carried out on the plot that is yet to be transferred to NMMC by City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco).
Sources claim that civic officials had under political pressure of the ruling party called for tenders and initiated work. Cidco did not take NMMC into confidence and separated a part of the plot for other purpose.
Savli village at Sector 3 of Ghansoli had been removed ostensibly for the development of the central park.
Since Cidco had used part of the land for other purpose, NMMC had refused to take possession of the remaining land. However, NMMC had prior to it, through the contractor begun work in the area.
In August 2014 as assembly elections were due, the civic officials called for tenders despite the land not being transferred.
While 44,124 sqm land had been reserved for the central park project, Cidco asked NMMC to take possession of the land, barring an area of 5,864 sqm.
Sources said that Cidco has plans to sell the land to private developers.
The NMMC refused to accept Cidco’s partial land offer.
The transfer issue has hence lingered on limiting itself to just meetings.
When municipal commissioner Mundhe learnt of the issue after taking charge, he immediate stopped work on the project.
Mundhe said, “The said plot is not yet in NMMC possession. Hence the work going on there has been stopped.”
He added, “There is a possibility that the contract itself will be cancelled in due course.”
Mundhe said, “We are making relentless efforts to transfer Ghansoli node and also all other utility plots that have to come from Cidco. The results should come soon.”
