VASHI: Navi Mumbai is finally set to get its own development plan (DP), 25 years after NMMC came into being. Municipal commissioner Tukaram Mundhe has stated that the plan will be presented in the next general body meeting of NMMC for approval.

Mundhe was reportedly angry at the DP not being prepared and ordered that it be readied within two months.

The work on preparation of the DP has been progressing at a snail’s pace for years. The NMMC general body had first approved a resolution for preparation of DP in 1997. However, the DP has not been readied till date.

Mundhe has entrusted the work of preparing the DP to assistant director of town planning department of NMMC, Sunil Hajare.

Mundhe said, “We are still using the DP handed over to us by the City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) which it had prepared at the time it started the city’s development. We are going as per their regulations.”

He said, “To correct the situation, I will present the DP for approval in the next general body meeting of the NMMC. It has two aspects — Existing Land Use (ELU) pattern and Propose Land Use (PLU) pattern.”

He added, “Once the general body approve it, the plan will be put in public domain for suggestions and objections. The process will be completed at the earliest.”

The commissioner said, “We will prepare a detailed plan of how the development of the city should be in the next 20 years.”
